Giveaway!

Dove has convinced me (Mavis) to do a giveaway with my own goods. It kind of makes you feel naked, ya know? But here we are.

A few years ago I decided to make my own door plaque that didn't look like the rest on my street. So I painted one up. Then friends were kind enough to ask me to make one for them, either for themselves or a friend. And a hobby was born.

Today, I am giving away a door plaque. You get to choose between these two plaques:

The white blossom gal measures approximately 13 inches wide by 7 inches high. The two birds plaque measures approximately 8 inches wide by 10.5 inches high.

The plaques are made from an environmentally friendly wood composite. They are designed to be moisture resistant and have been sealed against the elements.

Dove is off on a great adventure but provided some questions for me:

What is your creative process?
I am a bit of a scatter-brain when it comes to getting things done. I never completely finish one project before starting another - working many at one time. This applies to house cleaning, gardening, child-rearing and creative endeavors and might have to do with having 3 little kids. For instance, right now I have two plaques at about the halfway point, 2 primed, 30 hanging out just waiting for my hands to grace them and about 15 sewing projects in various stages of completion. I like to look at pretty things. I love to touch everything - love texture. I like having color (which would explain my kelly green living room) around me. With the plaques, I usually find some paper that I love and built around that. I paint and repaint. I cut and paste. I repaint again. Sometimes one sits lonely for some time before I pick it up again because I am just not feeling it. Other times, it just fits together. I wouldn't ever say I am an artist but I like to pretend sometimes. And I do appreciate things I find beautiful and engaging. Plus, I see of my plaques and they make me happy and I hope they do the same for those that look at them each day.

I have a great little "studio" in my basement so I am able to go to work at those times that I need a little shift in my attentions. Being able to do something creative is a great release for me. I have always grown up around creativity, been surround by creative women. My mother is an artist, doing anything from watercolor to punchneedle patterns (she and I have a little business creating and selling patterns). I wish I had paid more attention when my mom tried to teach me to how to sew, crochet, knit, draw. I am trying to reacquaint myself with it now.

How does Diet Coke play into your creative process?
Ooh, hadn't thought of that but it might explain why I haven't been in my studio very often in the last 40 or so days.

Thanks for letting me share a little about me with you. I hope you all have a great Easter weekend. Oh, and please enter so I don't feel so naked.

I would love it if in real life, one of the We Chirp girls, or Amanda, were to walk through my door. But since we live thousands of miles apart, that isn't likely. Instead, I can say that I'm eagerly anticipating our very first babysitter walking through the door tonight. That's right. It's date night at my house for the first time since Ms. Foo was born last summer and I am VERY excited. AND I'm getting a massage tomorrow for the first time in years.

I HOPE I WIN!!!

ok mavis, of course i am a follower, and of course i have the button. but more importantly i have a really plain white door that i have needed to paint for 2 years and haven't. surely the darling birds would fix that situation (until i get around to the painting anyway....). then the neighbors would want to keep up with the webbs (and when has that ever happened?).

That blue one at the bottom with the bird is hanging on MY front door at this very moment! I love it and get so many compliments, but that doesn't stop me from wanting another! I'm getting on the business and am hoping for a win.

I always wish my mama would walk through the door... any day, any time. She would love the welcome signs too. I may be getting her one for Mother's Day.

Are these your plaques, Mavis? I couldn't quite decipher who was the crafty queen making these. Love them...I am wishing my long lost friend Marnie would walk through my door right about now. It is long overdue...

I am your newest follower. Oldest but newest.

I MUST have the door sign! I have a ridiculous fetish with birdies and one of these has my name written all over it. Who do I want to welcome through my my door next? Oprah's personal chef or a nanny who bakes, crafts and plays dress up...at no charge of course!
P.S. Found your blog through Julianna. So cute!
P.S.S I'll do a give away for you! I just opened a silly etsy shop.:D

Marisha said...

Who do I want walking through my door? YOU!!! I would love it if you walked through my door with that sign. But since I know your busy tonight, it would have to be my babysitter. I need much deserved adult time.

Marisha said...

Okay so I've also added the We Chirp button. Man, I feel like a slacker that it's taken this long!

I hope Spring walks through my door with a bouquet of sunshine...that is so cheesy isn't it. Actually, I wouldn't mind a random visit from anyone that lives in my neighborhood and knows my first name.

Miss(Michelle) said...

These signs are truly fun to have hanging on your door. I personally have one...but couldn't stand having it on the door...then only my visitors (which I have only 2 a year) can see it....So I hung it in my entry to my kitchen. It says welcome to all who enter my home...my kitchen and family room.
Hope whoever wins look at it everyday like I do.
Thanks Mavis. WHere did you come up with that name anyway????

Paige said...

I want another one!!!

Rochelle said...

Wow Mavis. Maybe we are kindred spirits. I feel so guilty for not finishing the many, many projects I start and then letting the "stuff" I have accumulated waiting for some inspiration take up much needed space! There will be time I hope later when my own three little kids don't need me as much and I can create some more. until then..

Heather said...

If I could just follow someone somewhere that would be totally wicked cool. You guys ROCK. I will post you on my blog and spread the word to my 4 followers. Hee, hee, way to go girls.

Squeaking in under the wire, haha! I just found your blog (from the RaeGun one) and am loving it! Once I get my blog up and running, I will certainly but your button in.
Anyways, the person I would most like to walk through my front door would be my husband. He's a Marine and is off at school, after only having been back from Afghanistan for 5 months.
And your welcome signs are GORGEOUS!
