Easy, Medium and Hard

We have Christy here with us again. Aren't we lucky to have so many great people posting shtuff for us?! I love this and it has the wheels of my mind turning.

Well, it's June 3, summer is here, and I don't know about you, but I've sort of forgotten about my New Year's Resolutions. Since we're now nearing the mid-way point of the year, I've decided to dust off my goals, and simplify. So, I'm setting myself some attainable, short term (month-long) goals. Three of them: easy, medium and hard.

Does this remind you of the Do-Withouters who started off with a bang *me included* and then withered away? I know our fearless leader stayed the course (BRAVO - Standing Ovation from me!!!), but I am not sure how many others did. I had the best of intentions, but just wasn't able to follow-through...

So these short-term goals I'm talking about today don't necessarily have to do with food-intake or exercise or anything like that. They could be: learn to skateboard, do one self-less act a week, read a page of the dictionary a night, or start making my Christmas shopping list now and buy one item a month (Or am I the only Christmas freak here? No one else starts their shopping in the summer?!)

Here are mine:
Easy - Master one new meal. Any suggestions? (In May I mastered this super-duper easy and delicious one dish wonder: rosemary roast chicken - it's now part of our regular menu rotation and I suggest you try it out too!)

Medium - Get crafty. I used to needlepoint, scrapbook and just make things. I've gotten away from that. I haven't decided what to pursue yet, but by the end of the month I plan to be working on a new project. Probably needlepoint, but I'm not sure.

Hard - Stick to my triathlon training program, without missing even one day. 'Nuff said.

What do you think? Let us know - are you in? If not, that's fine. But if you are, share with us. What are your goals? Easy, medium and hard. Or just one. Whatever works for you.

If you're interested in needlepoint, perhaps you could make a Christmas stocking for Foo. I've always wanted to do that for our boys, and I never have.

As the weeks pass, your hard goal will slip to medium or easy. It will become a part of who you are, like brushing your teeth... well, more like flossing. ;-)

Hmmm...my goal for this month is to start cooking again at home. Trying to sell the house, I allowed myself to eat out or take out more so I didn't have to get the kitchen dirty, but that's really getting $$$...and cleaning isn't that big of a pain.

I have some goals, but don't know if they will be accomplished this month:
Buy some new walking shoes and go walking in the a.m. with baby at Descanso Gardens.
Redo the living room, purchase new sofa, touchup paint, rearrange etc.
Finish some of the projects I have started in the kitchen so they are not on my mind all the time.
Three things is enough for now!

Easy: Get the garden cleaned up. We've had so much rain lately that the garden has nearly been overtaken by weeds! Gah!

Medium: Get back into my pre-baby workout routine. (If only I had the drive and time to follow Christy's schedule!)

VERY Hard: Make it through the month without standing outside and screaming at the top of my lungs because of my MIL.

Chris - you make it sound so easy...I'm afraid it will always be hard for me. We'll see!

Averill - I have a feeling you'll LOVE cooking in your new fabulous kitchen when you move!

DD - I LOVE home improvement projects. Sound like great goals to me.

And Mel - you made me spit out my diet pepsi! You are TOO funny! I say go ahead and do scream - you'll feel MUCH better!!!

I'm all for goal setting, whether it's at New Year's or on a Tuesday. I'm going to have to ponder mine a bit, but I keep an ongoing list in my head that varies from being hard to easy depending upon the day: Don't yell at the kids, smile more, relax.

I'm always up for setting goals, its the following through I'm not so good on.
Easy - blog more on my other blog
Medium - tackle that jungle/garden
Hard - try to train for my triathalon (it helps to have Christy in my corner on this one, she's awesome)

I think the Christmas Needlepoint stocking is a great idea. We still enjoy the ones I made for "sweet pea" and her brother from 30 years ago!
My "easy" goal is to relax more!
"Medium" = Cook more variety and eat more healthily.
"Hard" = Practice Yoga more consistenly
Christy, you certainly are inspirational! Thanks!

I have so many things that I need to be doing and they're all hard...

But I've ALWAYS wanted to needlepoint! I tried to teach myself once when I was little, but it didn't work out so well. Someday I'll take a class.

Oh you tax my brain. Sometimes I wish I was content with the status quo, could settle for mediocrity.

Alas: some goals.

More exercise. I'm going to put Michael Phelps to shame.

Be better at following my gut.

Get rich and buy parents homes in the south of France.

None more important than the other.

I need to do so many things. I'll try to narrow down to three to work into a habit.

1. unfurrow my brow and smile more
2. more exercise and more playing with kids
3. decluttering!!!

ok. I can work on that this week. Baby steps Christy!

I love all of your goals and ideas so much. And that needlepointing a christmas stocking idea is sooo up my alley I think that's it. That's my medium goal - LOVE IT!
